February 9th, 2010 >> Cooking tips

It’s usually used in Indian cooking I believe. It’s like a bowl that has this piece that goes on top of it that looks like a funnel. It has a hole at the top for the smoke to blow out.
I wanted to look up recipes online to make with it, but first need to know what it’s called.

great selection here

What’s The Difference Of Cooking With Red And White Wine?

I often use red wine for deglazing and such and I love the taste, but there are some cream sauces I am interested in that call for white wine…I am not a wine drinker…so what is the difference? Is it just the color or does white taste different in cooking? Lighter? What?

How Do I Remove Split Cooking Oils / Fats On My Gas Cooker?

Posted by: RiceCookersSteamers.net

February 8th, 2010 >> Cooking tips

I do keep a clean house and pride myself on it! However, a minor mishap resulted in cooking fat spilling all over my gas cooker, on to the suface plates, the gas jet housing / stems and everywhere. I took it all apart, bought all sorts of clening agents, scrubbed and scrubbed, even left the main body parts to soak (not sure if the main gas fitting items are bronze metal parts or not) but I still cannot altogether remove the stains.
Has anyone got any ideas as to what I should use or do?
I’m a widower & strugglong with this. My late wife would of course have first cursed my disrupting her kitchen then, (under strict orders) I’d have been put to work – with all the necessary agents – to clean up the mess I made!
Advice wanted!

Any Tips On Keeping A Tender Steak Tender After Cooking It?

Posted by: RiceCookersSteamers.net

February 8th, 2010 >> Cooking tips

Ok, for starters, don’t overcook it, for two reasons. One, it will be dry and it will go to waste. Two, the more you cook meat, the harder it is for your body to digest, think of overcooked meat as your body trying to digest a piece of leather, it’s not easy!
Once it’s done cooking, let it sit on the serving platter for 10-20 minutes, covered in foil to help keep it warm. This lets the juices redistribute themselves back through the meat. And serving a sauce or marinade (that has been boiled, of course, to kill off anything bad) over the meat isn’t a bad idea either!

Looking To Give A Gift Of Cooking Classes, What Is The Best Option That’s Available In Chicago?

Posted by: RiceCookersSteamers.net

February 8th, 2010 >> Cooking tips

I was hoping to give my Mom cooking classes as a gift this Christmas, she’s already an amazing cook so I was hoping these classes could give her a robust and rich experience (i.e. French Cooking techniques) not teach her basic cooking techniques and recipes.
A smaller setting, with an amazing chef/professor would be awesome. Something she could come into the city for over a couple of days, perhaps even with a friend. I’m looking to spend between $200-500.
