This item cooks rice very well; however, it does not have an automatic shut off. I would have preferred a unit with an automatic shut off because I overcooked the rice at least once already.

I make rice at least once a week and found that cooking it on the stove or in the microwave usually boiled over leaving a mess or was under or overcooked. I finally decided to invest in the rice cooker/steamer. I made my first meal over the weekend. A lemon zest rice while I steamed chicken in the steamer. The rice was done in about 20 mins. It burned a little on the bottom but I think that’s because I didnt wash the rice beforehand. The chicken took about 30 mins and was perfect. Cooked all the way through and was nice and juicy. I have a feeling this is going to be my new favorite kitchen appliance. It was so easy to put everything into one pot and not have to stand over it. And in 30 mins I had a nice homecooked meal without much hassle. Easy clean up too.

This rice cooker is perfect for a small apartment. It gets the job done, but there is a layer of stuck rice on the bottom of every pot that I haven’t experienced with my Asian branded rice cookers. I can’t figure out why. . perhaps the capacity is just too small?
Anyhow it’s cheap and almost a disposable appliance so you really can’t go wrong.

Works pretty well with white rice – it will stick to the bottom and burn a tiny bit, but there is a way around this – after it finishes cooking leave it on the “warm” setting for about 20 minutes and the rice will unstick. Trying it with brown rice as I type, but not patient enough to wait ’til it’s done to write this review. I would imagine it would work better with brown since brown isn’t as sticky, but who knows.

I love this little rice cooker. I grew up eating rice everyday, and my family always used a really old school rice cooker, so I was skeptical at first. However I was thrilled when my rice turned out perfectly the first time I made it. Be sure to wash the rice (at least three rinse-throughs is what my mom taught me) before you cook it, or it will bubble over. It only makes 3 cups but that is the perfect amount for my boyfriend and I to eat for two meals.
