Rinse the rice in a strainer or whatever you have available to get all the grit out. You want to use one part rice, two parts water. If you are serving 2 people, start with about 1 cup of uncooked rice. It should be more than enough. Rice goes in first, then the water, then close the lid. Depending on your kind of rice cooker, it will either automatically turn a green light on or there will be some sort of “start” button. Your rice cooker knows when it’s done and will change to a red/orange light, or have some other signal to unplug it. Or it might shut off automatically. Oh, and try not to peek it will let the steam out!

Plan your cooking. Say two cups of rice, wash nice and clean. Measurement water roughly the height of rice in container. Place back into the cooker, switch on. When readily cook the cooker will switch to warm. Not only rice you can cook anything using combination of soup and any ready stock as long as the cooker doesn’t cook dry stuff. Rice cooker is not just cooking rice. Try cooking soup noodle or any watery stuff.

Lol, I never saw one in my life till my husband brought one here from Chicago, but I would think their all the same. :D Just be sure you clean the rice before you cook it or else you’ll be eating bleach and who knows what. :P

Here is how I cook rice to almost perfection. I work at cooking to Japanese standards. I use Calrose short grain rice, approximately at a price of $2 a pound.
2 cups of rice
1.75 cups of water
You should rinse it. Even let it sit soaking in water for an hour or two before rinsing.
