How Long Can You Keep Uncooked Fish In The Refrigerator Before Cooking?

It wouldnt go bad in two days would it? I started thawing it and its been wrapped in plastic air tight. Im new to cooking fish so I havent got a clue.

Fish should not have a strong odor. The flesh should be resilient to touch. If you start getting that ammoniaish smell and/or when you press your finger about a quarter inch in the meat does not regain it’s shape, then DON’T EAT IT! Otherwise enjoy.

I happen to love fish, & it’s always best to get it fresh, not frozen, if only for the taste. Also, to give it a good “sniff”–if it smells like fish, it isn’t “fresh.” The “fish monger” will usually put on a label that says “Best used by…” Once you defrost frozen fish, it’s wise to prepare it as soon as it’s thawed. I have so much in my refrigerator, I always label the date I put (prepared) entrees in, & my rule of thumb is: If in doubt throw it out. But, as you said–wrapping it tight in plastic–isn’t the answer. Use it as soon as possible!

2 days max. Fish does not keep well.
Fish is kind of hard because if you don’t cook it right it REALLY sucks. Lousy fish is worse than going hungry.

I would not let it stay more than 48 hours. Fish doesn’t keep well at all.
